kuniyoshi

The Royal Academy of Arts are holding an exhibition of over 150 works by one of Japan’s greatest artists Utagawa Kuniyoshi at the moment. Ollie went along with pal Shan Jiang (ilovedust) to check it out… it’s most definitely worth a visit, the stories behind the artwork and the process that artists of this era had to go through to get their artwork certified for production was quite something.

Today we hit the beach Jamie Oliver style for a company meeting to talk BIG about the future. So inspired by all the haloumi and balsamic was John, that he ran all the way back to the studio, fired up on toploader and lisping estuary vowels. That’s a full 14 miles ladies and gents.

We’re drawing a line under our first 5 years. Finished! Complete! Ciao! Change! 5 commemorative artworks that pay homage to some of the imagery that have moved us to the top of the pile. A whole new aesthetic with a certitude and totality of certificates, bonds, currency…really intricate graphic that wreaks of craft. The start of something new…but saying ‘thank you’ to the projects that made us who we are. 5 pieces that are a statement of intent. Foundations for the future. Self-initiated change that sets the bar so much higher and even ridicules ourselves for the tit-for-tat malaise which we feel to be so prevalent in our industry. Its an exploration where we only know the beginning…bringing the fun and uncertainty back into what we do and opening ourselves up to happy accident. New though…nothing pastiche. Nothing pre-RECESSION.

A phoenix from our own flame.

It’s taken months 8 sittings and a high pain threshold but Joe is glad he did it… and so are we. It’s a real treat to know that someone is walking around inked for life with a McFaul Studio original.

We are in the process of drawing up a new section that will cover the inside of the Joe’s arm, making the tattoo a complete wrap. Watch this space for more photos in the coming months

I was back with Sammy on Friday 13th and yes it was spooky!!! I learned a valuable lesson that day, Don’t drink the night before!! I knew this of course but had chosen to forget. Booze thins your blood and causes you to bleed like a stuffed Pig! You could smell the Guinness coming out!

It made for some great pictures though…
